Healthy Living

Many people are in search for healthy living. But what are really the essentials for health and fitness? And how do you achieve good health and overall well-being?

When we have a closer look at the concept, it all boils down to the following four components,
which are crucial for healthy living:

1. Good nutrition
2. Regular exercise
3. A good night sleep
4. High-quality nutritional supplementation

Healthy living means: keeping a balanced, healthy diet
Avoid smoking and excessive use of alcohol and toxic chemicals.

If we choose to make good nutrition, including supplementation, and an active lifestyle a daily habit, we could add five to fifteen healthy years to our lives.

It has been said that we are what we eat, but a more accurate definition would be: we are what we can get out of our food. Because it’s the bio-availability of the nutrients we inject, and more importantly, the cell’s ability to absorb those nutrients, which are the crucial factors that determine a person’s health and well-being. These two are often overlooked facts.
These are the keys to optimal nutrition.
That’s why most supplements miss the mark.  They simply do not address the cellular condition of the body. Even worse, many are in a form which are unacceptable to the cells themselves.

There is however, one remarkable exception to this depressing trend, and that are the supplements manufactured by USANA Health Sciences.

When we age, we must eat well and adjust our eating habits.
As we get older, our needs for certain nutrients will change significantly.

To be healthy for life, it’s important to consume eight to ten servings of fruits and vegetables daily. And many of these should be raw, because they contain those natural digestive enzymes.

But the quality of our foods has depleted, due to modern farming techniques. For example,
the use of hybrids.
Unfortunately, economics is the driving force behind the American agriculture, causing farmers
to be more concerned about bushels per acre, than the nutrient content of the food they harvest.

Physicians are biased against nutritional supplements.
They learn very little about nutrition in their study on medical school.
They would tell you: taking supplements is a waste of money.

But Dr. Ray Strand’s title of his book: ”What your doctor doesn’t know about Nutritional Medicine may be killing you.” Says it all. He was converted when his wife became sick. She suffered from fibromyalgia, and no drugs could cure her.
As a last resource she tried nutritional supplements, and after three months she was cured.

Dr. Strand learned about oxidative stress, which is the underlying cause of degenerative diseases.
Oxidative stress is caused by cell damage of free radicals. It is the root cause of more than seventy chronic degenerative diseases. The same process that causes iron to rust and a cut apple to turn brown.
It’s the underlying cause of diseases like: coronary artery disease, cancer, stroke, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer dementia, and macular degeneration.

We are actually rusting on the inside. In fact, oxidative stress is the leading theory behind the aging process. In addition to this, our bodies are under constant attack from an army of pollutants in air food, and water.
Our stress filled live styles also take a toll. If we do not counteract these processes,
the result will be cell deterioration and ultimately disease.

When you understand the tremendous damage that oxidative stress inflicts during normal daily life on the human body, you will realize how important it is to optimize your own natural
antioxidant and immune system.

Dr Strand concluded after much study, that using nutritional supplements on patients,
is not alternative medicine, but instead complementary medicine.
After reviewing medical research studies, he was certain, that his patients, who take
high quality nutritional supplements, have a health benefit over those who don’t.
This he called: cellular nutrition.

The purpose of my book is to make people aware of the factors that cause illnesses and
diseases, and to learn how to adapt a healthy lifestyle.

What I want readers to take away from my book is to understand that degenerative diseases
are not the natural consequence of old age but can be avoided by adapting a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy for Life with Natural Digestive Enzymes

I refer to my articles:"Bacteria in our GI Tract & digestive health.

To be healthy for life it is important to consume 8 to 10 servings of fruit and vegetables daily and many of these should be raw that are considered to be “Life Food” because they contain those natural digestive enzymes.I also recommend that your diet is free from high-clycemic carbohydrates and sugar.

Because you will not be spiking your blood sugar, this will also keep your yeast in check and is the answer if you have problems with recurrent yeast infections.
It will keep your blood sugar lower, which is also critical to keep a balanced GI flora.
I also advice you to consume more good fat and good protein and reduce the amount of bad fat and bad protein that's in your diet now.

I also recommend that you take high-quality, complete and balanced nutritional supplements at the optimal levels that have been proven to provide a health benefit in medical literature.

However, even if you pratice a healthy lifestyle, there can be problems sometimes which are out of your control.

Science has shown that when we get older, the production of digestive enzymes becomes less.
When you combine this with a diet of highly processed foods without any natural digestive enzymes, for many of us this results in having less capacity to digest our micronutrients as we once did.

You could have irritable bowel, GI distress, reflux, and chronic fatigue.
I would advice you to consider adding digestive enzymes to your diet and consume 1 – 3 high-quality digestive enzymes prior to or with your meal.

This will allow you to replenish your digestive enzymes and better digest and absorb the nutrients from your food and supplements. As a bonus you will usually notice an improvement in your GI tract and general health within 4 to 6 weeks of starting digestive enzymes. Of course you adjust the amount of enzymes you are consuming based on your response. If you respond well with one digestive tablet prior to or with your meal, then I suggest you stay at his level. you respond better with 2 to 3 tablets, then this may be the level you need to take.

I also suggest that you take high-quality probiotics every other day,
This will bring your GI flora back into balance and suppress the bad bacteria and yeast. If you have to take a course of antibiotics for an infection, then take a packet of probiotics daily while you are on the antibiotics and for at least two weeks afterwards. This will help you better to avoid many of the terrible GI complications which antibiotics can cause and protect your health by bringing this “Garden Within” back into balance as soon as possible.
If you are eating a healthy diet and didn't have to take antibiotics, then you may find that after a few months of taking probiotics, you don't need to continue taking them. However, many people have such good health benefits or are concerned with the antibiotics that are in our food supply, which cannot be avoided by most of us, continue to take probiotics every other day or at least a few times per week is a good idea. Keeping your “Garden Within” into balance with natural digestive enzymes is a key aspect of general health and an optimal immune system.

The Need for Supplementation

Never before has the need for supplementation been greater than in our present time.

The connection between good nutrition and long term health is beyond dispute and backed by a wealth of scientific evidence. What we eat and how we eat effects our health on the long term.

Our diet fails in supplying the essential nutrients we need for optimum health. We have put good nutrition on the backburner and as a result our diet fails to provide even the minimum levels of nutrients that we need for long term health. Only 9% of people consume the five daily servings of fresh fruit and vegetables recommended by the National Cancer Institute. Until the 1940’s,farmers used to practise crop rotation and returned essential nutrients back into the soil by mulching, manuring and churning. Because of growing population and industrialization it was no longer possible to grow crops that way. So the farmer use large farms and make use of artificial fertilizers. But crops can’t make their natural insect repellents with artificial fertilizers,so the farmer has to use chemical pesticides, which are sprayed on the crop and fruits and when we consume those fruits and veges, those chemical pesticides accumulates in our body and causes diseases.

Most of us today are suffering from certain dangerous diet deficiencies, which cannot be remedied until the depleted soils from which our food come, are brought into proper mineral balance. The alarming fact is that fruits and vegetables now being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer contain enough of certain minerals, are starving us, no matter how much we eat.In other words, we cannot get the necessary nutrients out of our food. 96% of the US population dies of a degenerative disease, like cancer, stroke, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer disease etc. Over 65% of American adults are overweight or obese (20%-25% of children). We are not even getting the minimum of RDA levels of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. The RDA levels were designed in the early 1920’s and 1930’s as minimum requirements of TEN essential nutrients to protect against acute deficiency diseases, like Scurvy (deficiency of vit.C), Rickets (deficiency of vit.D) and Pellagra(deficiency of niacin)

The RDA’s did a good job to eliminate Scurvy and Rickets, but consuming the RDA’s will not even come close to helping prevent a degenerative disease and our EPIDEMIC health stats prove that. To protect us against degenerative diseases we need OPTIMUM LEVELS of nutrients. Just to make a comparison between the RDA levels and Optimum levels: The RDA level for Vit.C is 60mg.However the Optimum level is 1300mg.
The RDA level for vit.E is 15IU. But the Optimum level is 450IU’s(IU stands for International Unit).
The RDA level for vit.D is 200IU’s,but the Optimum level is 600 IU’s. To be able to get the Optimum level of vitamin C(1300mg) out of our food, we have to consume 17 medium kiwifruits or 16 medium oranges daily, which is unpractical. So what’s the solution? We have three choices:
1. do nothing and pay the price.
2. become an old fashion farmer.
3. take a 1st. grade supplement.

It’s been scientifically proven that there are substantial health benefits in taking nutritional supplements.
The benefits of nutritional supplements are scientifically verified over the past two years.Hundreds of scientific studies have proved that nutritional supplements can significantly reduce the risk of degenerative diseases.

Supplements provide a convenient and effective means of achieving good nutrition every day for a lifetime. Chronic degenerative diseases are not diseases of old age.Heart disease starts at childhood. It appears prudent for all children and adults to take vitamin supplements.
